Harold Losey Obituary

Harold D. Losey, 98, Pioneer Road, Emporium, PA, passed away Wednesday afternoon (March 13, 2024).  Born July 12, 1925 in Dents Run, PA a son of the late Lee J. and Daisy C. Rider Losey, he was raised in rural Benezette Township, graduating Benezette High School class of 1942 (class of 5).  The Bennetts Valley area, its mountain top vistas, feeder trout streams, and old logging roads and abandoned railroads remained a playground his entire life. Working in the area coal industry for a time, he enlisted in the US Army in August of 1944, serving in the Pacific Theatre, and honorably discharged in August 1946.  After service to his country, he returned briefly to the coal industry, but it seemed life had a different calling in mind.  A required aptitude test at the St. Mary’s unemployment office identified some talent for mechanical drawing and landed him a drafting position at Sylvania in Emporium in 1948. A 40 year career in automated equipment design and management ensued, culminating in a final year abroad in Eindhoven, Netherlands, the headquarters for Sylvania successor company Philpis Electronics.

It was at Sylvania that Harold was introduced to his future wife, an interesting young secretary from Strasbourg, France, Denise Lillian (Schmitt) Losey, who survives.  They were married July 11, 1953 and raised two children in Emporium; daughter, Cora A. Badagliacca (Mario), Little River, SC and son, Harold Losey, Jr. (Kristen), Chichester NH who also survive along with three grandchildren: Emma Losey, Lilly Losey, Dena Aalto; one great granddaughter, Alexandra; and several nieces and nephews.  In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a brother, Robert Losey and two sisters, Beatrice Weis and Freda Harrison.

A conservative and frugal man who valued self-sufficiency and hard work, Harold was a good role model for the next generations.  He equally enjoyed his time away from work, with hunting, fly fishing, travel and golf at Emporium CC, always near the top of the list.

At his request there will be no service.
