Clara V. Sarick

Clara V. Sarick, 94, of 44 S. Cherry St., Emporium, PA died, peacefully with her family at her side, at her residence on Sunday morning. (August 13, 2017) She was born January 7, 1923 in Emporium, PA a daughter of the late Charles and Rose Gennacarro Vassallo. On October 31, 1944 in St. Mark Catholic Church she married the late John "Sonny" Sarick. Clara graduated from Emporium High School in the class of 1941. She retired from Sylvania after 35 years in the payroll Department. She was a member of St. Mark Catholic Church and the American Legion Auxiliary and the VFW Womans Auxiliary, Unit #6221. She enjoyed playing cards, having played for over 50 years with the same group of friends. Clara loved the many flowers that surrounded her home of the last seventy-plus years, watching them bloom and change with the seasons was such a joy to her. She loved watching her birds on the feeders, reading books, chocolates, playing cards, and sharing time with family and friends. Her greatest love was for her family. Clara is survived by her son, Barry E. Sarick, Emporium; daughter, Nancy Sarick Vierhaus, San Jose, CA; three Grandchildren: John D. Sarick, Treasure Lake, PA, Jill Santos, Ventura, California, & Eric Vierhaus, Oakland, California; two great grandchildren: Ziggy Finn Santos & Cameron Anisa Sarick and numerous nieces and nephews. Clara was preceded in death by her parents, Charles and Rose Vassallo; her beloved and love of her life husband, John "Sonny" Sarick in 2006; two sisters, Virginia MacDonald and Caroline Drotos; one brother, Charles Joseph “Joe” Vassallo. Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Friday, August 18, 2017 from 4:00 - 7:00 PM, where a Vigil Service will be held at 6:45 PM. Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Saturday (August 19, 2017) at 10:00 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant. Burial will follow in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA Memorial Contributions may be made to the Cameron County Memorial Detail, c/o VFW, 427 E. 3rd St., Emporium, PA 15834 or to the Barbara Moscato Brown Memorial Library, 27 W. 4th St., PO Box 430, Emporium, PA 15834-0430
