Arthur "Art" R. Moate, 72, of Austin, PA formerly of Driftwood, PA passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday (November 6, 2023) following a lengthy illness. He was born June 11, 1951, in Driftwood, a son of the late Arthur M. and Edna Smith Moate. On March 14, 1986, at the First Baptist Church in Emporium, he married Sarah J. "Sally" Lentz.
After attending Cameron County high school, Arthur enlisted in the Army where he served as an E5 in Okinawa during the Vietnam War. After being honorably discharged in 1974, he returned to Driftwood where he began and operated his own logging business for several years.
Art is survived by a daughter, Carrie Burgett (Dave) of Emporium; son, Bryan Moate (Amanda) of Gardeau; daughter, Angela Zawatski (Bob) of Austin; son, Justin Moate (Erica) of Austin; eight grandchildren: Sarah (Vince), Charlotte (Dakota), Chloe, Miles, Elizabeth, McKenzey Jo, Carrie and Ava; one great granddaughter Harlow; sister, Judy Yonkin (Late Theron "Buddy") sister, Mary Miller (Ray); brother, Clyde Moate (Debbie); brother, Paul Moate as well as numerous nieces and nephews, cousins and friends.
Art was preceded in death by his mother Edna R. Moate and Father, Arthur M. Moate, his loving wife of 32 years, Sarah Moate, a brother-in-law, Lawrence Friday, and a sister, Madeline C. Friday.
The family will receive friends at the god's Country Methodist Church, 26 Turner Street, Austin, PA on Saturday (Nov. 11, 2023) from 10:00-11:45 AM followed by a service at 12:00 PM with Rev. Todd Lamer, Pastor, officiating. A. Military service will follow.
Burial will be in the Mix Run Cemetery, Driftwood, PA
