Basil A. Buchanan

Basil A. Buchanan, Jr., 75, of Emporium, PA formerly of Driftwood passed away at his residence on Saturday morning with his family by his side (July 22, 2023) following a brief illness. He was born January 5, 1948 in Renovo, PA a son of the late Basil A. and Georgianna Saxton Buchanan. On September 8, 1973 in DuBois, PA he married the late Margaret "Maggie" Shrauger.

After Basil finished high school he joined the US Army where he served during the Vietnam War. While in the service he obtain an associate degree in accounting. He retired from GKN where he worked for many years. He was a member of the Cameron County Vets Club, American Legion, Christabel Club, Driftwood Senior Center, May Hollow Sportsman Club, and was a lifetime member of the Sinnamahoning Sportsman Club.

He is survived by two daughters, Heather Baney and Melinda Buchanan, both of  Emporium; four grandchildren: Wesley Basil & Dylan James "Buck Shot" Baney, Meghan Catherine (Sherry) Coates and Amber Renee Sherry, three great grandchildren: Rocket, Emma and Paisley; two brothers, June Buchanan, Renovo and Clarence Pickering, Punxsutawney.

In addition to his parents and wife he was preceded in death by a brother, Norman Pickering.

The family will receive friends at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. 4th St., Emporium, PA on Monday (July 24, 2023) from 11:00-11:45 AM followed by the service at 12:00 PM with Pastor Ken Bailey officiating after which time a military service will be held by the Cameron County Memorial Detail.

Burial will be in the Oak Hill Cemetery, Driftwood, PA
