Esther L. Townsend, 75, of Williamsport, PA, formerly of Emporium, passed away peacefully on Saturday afternoon (July 12, 2025), at Edenbrook South in Williamsport.
She was born on July 28, 1949, in West Chester, PA, the daughter of the late Charles and Mary J. Sheeler Lynam. Esther was a proud graduate of Downingtown High School, Class of 1967. She dedicated over 29 years of her career to Chemical Leaman Tank Lines in Downingtown, where she was known for her strong work ethic and dedication.
After retiring, Esther found her greatest joy in spending time with her beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She cherished family gatherings and especially loved beach trips to Wildwood, New Jersey, which became a special tradition. A spirited sports fan, she never missed a chance to cheer on her favorite team, the Dallas Cowboys.
Esther is survived by her loving daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer Wheaton (Paul) of Emporium; her beloved grandchildren: Brittany Bailey, Kara Whelpley, Alex, Payton, and Parker Wheaton; and her adored great-grandchildren: Caroline, Ryan, Sylvia, Odin, Willow, and Twila.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her granddaughter, Courtney Standeven.
Family and friends are invited to gather for a visitation at the Barnett Funeral Home, 207 E. 4th St., Emporium, PA on Friday, July 18, 2025, from 2:00 to 2:45 PM. A funeral service will follow at 3:00 PM with Rev. Jeremy Caskey officiating. Esther will be laid to rest in Newton Cemetery, Emporium, PA.
