Howard Richard “Rabbit” Young, 83, of Emporium, PA, passed away at his residence, with his family at his side, on Sunday morning (May 3, 2026) following a lengthy illness.
He was born October 18, 1942, in Emporium, PA, a son of the late Richard N. and Theresa (Grovanz) Young. He was married to the late Roberta Jean Drummer.
Rabbit was a 1960 graduate of Cameron County High School and later attended Penn State University–DuBois. He began his working career at Sylvania and went on to retire from GKN after many dedicated years of service. In addition to his industrial work, he was also the owner of the former Happiness Inn in Emporium, where he enjoyed the camaraderie of friends and the community.
An outdoorsman at heart, Rabbit found great enjoyment in hunting and fishing, and he took pride in tending his garden. He will be remembered for his easygoing nature and the many friendships he maintained throughout his life.
He is survived by a son, Matthew S. Young of Emporium; a daughter, Monica Y. Young of Emporium; two grandchildren, Seven and Winn Young-Lamont; his longtime companion, Marie Alerte; and one sister, Elizabeth Rose Young of Emporium.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Roberta Jean Drummer.
There will be no visitation. Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family.
Burial will be in Rich Valley Cemetery, Emporium, PA.
