Obituary

Larry Lee von Arx, age 75, of Sears Hollow, Austin, passed away peacefully at his home, surrounded by his family on the morning of Wednesday, March 1, 2023. He was born in Ridgway on May 11, 1947, a son of the late Glen “Jack” and Ida (Bevins) von Arx. On May 19, 1973, he married Mary E. Belsole, who survives.

Larry followed many varying career paths throughout his life. He was a certified respiratory therapy technician, earned an associate’s degree in paralegal studies, was a certified private investigator, attended the Lincoln Chiropractic College, and worked at Pennsylvania Pressed Metals, where he served as a final inspector for many years. He was active in the Saint Mark Folk Group and participated in the Parade of Stars.

Larry had a love for music and passion for playing the guitar dating back to his high school days.  His first band was named the Rogue's.  They played at the American folk festival near Philadelphia and many famous coffee shops there in the 1960s.  His last band "Sailcat" produced two albums (Looney 2-NS and Arm and Axe - Blister Power) all recorded and mixed at Blue Shed Studios. He played the guitar and taught music his entire life.

In addition to his wife, Mary, he is survived by his children: Dawn, David, Christian, Larry, Chantelle, Susan, Laura, and Steven; fifteen grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and a brother, John von Arx.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Glen and Ida (Bevins) von Arx.

There will be no visitation. Services will be held privately for the family. Burial will be in Portage Cemetery in Gardeau.

If desired, memorials may be made to the Cameron County School District Band Boosters, 427 Woodland Avenue, Emporium, PA 15834.
