Louis Slyder Obituary

Louis James Slyder, 77, of 2195 Steam Mill Rd., Emporium, PA passed away unexpectedly at Penn Highlands Elk, St. Marys, PA on Thursday, evening (July 22, 2021). He was born June 9, 1944 in Chambersburg, PA a son of the late Solomon Brake and Stella Nell Slyder. He married Tami Lee Dunlap, who survives.

Louis graduated from the Peddie School. He had a great love of flying and loved flying ultra light aircraft. He landed in many weird places including the creek and a tree top. But, as a pilot says, any landing you walk away from is a good landing. He traveled all over the world, he especially liked going to South America. Despite his love for other areas of the world, Cameron County was home. He loved wood, sawing logs and building. He was a supporting member of PBS and was an advocate of Nature Conservancy. Louis was also a master gardener. He was a wonderful husband.

In addition to his wife Tami he is survived by daughter, Leah (Gyorgy) Slyer-Vass, Oakland, CA; son, Anthony Boyce, Windsor, CA; daughter, Annabelle (Tom) Coote, Great Barrington, MA; daughter, Allegra (Ric) Haupt, Amherst, NY; son, Eli Slyder, New York, NY; son, Isaac (Bridget) Slyder, Pittsburgh; son, Jacob (Brooke) Slyder, Wheat Ridge, CO; nine grandchildren; sister, Barbara Rice, Huntsville, AL.

Louis was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Patricia Slyder.

There will be no visitation. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
