Shirley Zimmer

Shirley Jean Harford Zimmer, age 90, of Old Portage Road, Emporium, went to be home with the Lord on August 19, 2021. Born in Meadville, PA on July 20, 1931, she was the daughter of Arthur Harford and Martha Sanford Sawyer. Earl Louis Zimmer, her husband of 71 years, survives her.

Shirley was a devoted wife and mother. She was a dedicated caregiver as well as Sunday School teacher and den leader. She worked for several years at Widmann’s, delivered Meals on Wheels, and retired as an aid at the Grove House at the age of 82. She was a member of the First Baptist Church.

In addition to her husband, she is survived by her four daughters and three sons: Pamela (Richard) Dill of Williamsport, Paula (Irvin) Merat of Byrnedale, Benjamin (Lynn) Zimmer of Lionsville, Priscilla Zimmer of Emporium, Scott (Christina) Zimmer of Ridgway, Andrew (Dawn) Zimmer of Emporium and Dorothy (Mark) Anderson of St. Marys; two half-sisters and two half-brothers, Dennis (Lorna) Sawyer, Sandra, Bonnie and Arthur Harford; 15 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Calvin Zimmer; and two grandchildren, Julie Anderson and Brandon Zimmer. Shirley was “small in stature – big in heart”.

Visitation will be private. The services will be private.
