Philomena Grovanz

Philomena Grovanz, 94, of 319 Oak Street, Emporium, PA died at Guy & Mary Felt Manor, Emporium, PA on Sunday (January 10, 2010) afternoon.
She was born Sept. 23, 1915 in Russellton, PA a daughter of the late Loretto and Christina DeMoro Gentile.
On August 27, 1940 in Emporium she married the late Joseph Grovanz.
Mrs. Grovanz atteded school in Russellton, PA. She retired from GTE Sylvania where she worked for many years. She was a member of the Quarter Century club and a member of St. Mark Catholic Church. She also owned and operated the former Phil's Shoe Store in Emporium.

Daughter: Gloria Kengor husband Paul, Butler
Daughter: Marlene Kane, Emporium
9 Grandchildrren Joseph, Mark, Paul, Christian, Kerrie, Casey, Zack, Courtney & Billy
12 Great Grandchildren Christopher, Michael, Joelle, Jeremy, Paul, Mitchell, Amanda, Abby, John, Jordan, Kennedy & Rian

Sister: Mary Micklow, Russellton
Sister: Olga Hibner, Russellton
Brother: Samuel Gentile and his wife Ruth, Tarentum
Preceded in Death By
Parents: Loretto and Christina DeMoro Gentile
Husband: Joseph Grovanz who died December 9, 2006
2 Sisters: Emma LaBrozzi, Della LaBrozzi
Brother: William Gentile
Mass of Christian Burial will be Celebrated at the St. Mark Catholic Church, 235 East Fourth Street, Emporium, PA on Wednesday (January 13, 2010) at 11:00 AM with Rev. Paul S. Siebert, Pastor, as Celebrant.
Visitation will be at the Barnett Funeral Home on Tuesday from 4:00 - 8:00 PM.
Burial will be in the St. Mark Catholic Cemetery, Emporium, PA

Philomena always sat at the same table in the dining room as my mother, Helen Cummings. I last saw her when we were filling Halloween bags for the children. A large tray of candy was placed in front of Phil..she immediately began to unwrap & eat those treats! She did fill the bags when they came around the table to her! I had to laugh when her tray was almost empty & she threw the remaining candies across the table to me!
The Manor won\'t seem the same without Phil at her place at the head of the table. She will be missed.

Philomena was a great mother, grandma, great grandma and friend to everyone.

My sincere sympathy goes out to all the Grovanz family. It was such a joy and privilege to spend time with Phil. She was a real treasure. I lost my Mom, Rebecca Johnson, one week before and am just heartsick from missing both of these dear women, but I know they are both in Heaven, singing with the angels now.

So sorry of your lost. She was such a nice person. I was lucky enough to work at Sylvania with her. And buying the girls shoes from her when she had shoe store. Always so pleasant, and always in her heels.
